Grateful for Community Support!

Our Scouts love it when the Resource Officer unloads cars!  What a unique way to start a day of learning and fun!  We appreciate the way our school district and the local community work together for our students in all of our schools.  If you have a chance to thank a local officer for supporting Lexington One, please do so.

I love having the opportunity each day to see students learn, teachers collaborate, and families join in the fun!  This has been an exciting week.  We had Mr. Nao visit us from Lexington Technology Center and expand our knowledge of coding.  +LexingtonOne

Then, Friday night, we celebrated health with our Scouts and their families!  Even with rescheduling this event due to the possible winter weather last week, we had a huge turn-out.  While participating in yoga, karate, tumbling, Wii, jump rope, Twister, taste testing, human Hungry, Hungry Hippos and more, our students and families were able fellowship and laugh!  They were even able to visit the Moon and experience a little less gravity (bounce house).

After 2 hours of activity, all students walked away with a new book for their home library and a Moon Pie!  Thank you to our staff members who worked so hard for this event and for the families who came out to support GPS!

Sharing, celebrating, and collaborating!

Today was an amazing day at Gilbert Primary School for our Scouts!  We were able to share about our school, celebrate leadership at our Shout-Out Parties, and collaborate with teammates!
At each Shout-Out Party, our Scouts were surprised with snowy weather, cookies & cocoa, and Olaf!   Our Lexington One School Board Chair, Debbie Knight, was able to visit today and in addition to visiting classrooms, seeing some amazing learning, and seeing students use our eSpark program, she received a grand welcome through a "noodle tunnel" into the 2nd grade party.

On another happy note from this week, Mrs. H and Mrs. Baker have been doing auditions for our 2nd grade play and sharing some of the audition clips with me.   Each year, our 2nd graders perform a play in late spring.  This year, our Scouts will become dalmatians in Disney's 101 Dalmatians.  They are amazing!!  Our students have blown me away with what they are able to do, even at the audition point, of this process.  This is only possible because they feel safe to become the characters, which can be scary even as an adult!  Can't wait to see what they do after weeks of collaboration and practice.

To wrap up this week, we have a family health night planned.  As our Scouts and their families join us for Movin' in the Moonlight on Friday night, they will be engaged in yoga, wii, jump rope, taste-testing, zumba, human hungry-hungry-hippos, and more!  Students will also walk away with a NEW book for their home library and a special treat!

It is a pure JOY to do what I love each day!

Welcome to my new blog!

In an effort to communicate more efficiently with families, I am going to attempt a blog.  I'll be able to update this frequently instead of the current newsletter that locks us into timeframes.  For now, our regular school newsletter will still be sent electronically through School Messenger and I will also link them to this blog.  I'd love feedback from you on what you would like to see here and what would be helpful.  I will be adding calendar information soon, as I know this will be helpful for you.  Included already in the Links section are links for the district's homepage and also our GPS homepage (for the school).
As we approach the mid-year point of this school year, there are many successes we can look back on and celebrate. Our Leader in Me initiative is more apparent throughout our building with staff and students. Students are becoming more reflective on their goal setting and more focused on steps needed to meet those goals. They are using Data Notebooks to track their progress towards their academic, personal, and leadership goals.  Our Pow-Wow Leadership Rallies have been a huge success each month as we spotlight classes showing leadership and responsibility in the cafeteria, their classrooms, and in the Pow-Wow.  Staff members are also celebrated through our Above and Beyond Award each month where other staff members nominate those they see going above the norm to make GPS great!!
In addition to our celebrations, staff members are collaborating on leadership initiatives, student achievement, and instructional practices.  All staff members are part of Shared Leadership Teams and facilitating different aspects of our Leader in Me initiative.  
Our mission at GPS is Growing. Learning. Leading. ....Together!  It is our goal to do this hand-in-hand with the parents and community we serve!  Thank you for your support of our Scouts!
